Marshland Acres - Solid Manure Transportation

Maps were created and utilized in a Pepin County court trial

The two images above illustrate maps I created for the Wisconsin State Patrol. These maps depict field locations and distances where solid manure was transported to in relation to the farm it was produced at for the years of 2011 and 2012.

To illustrate this relationship I used ArcMap 9.3 and aerial imagery backgrounds:
  • First, I marked the location of the initial farm with a star.
  • Next, I digitized in the fields where the manure was being transported to. To do this I referred to the Nutrient Management Plan for the farm where the fields were outlined on aerial imagery.
  • Then, I categorized the fields in relation to the amount of manure that was being transported to them. Again, the Nutrient Management Plan was referred to to obtain these amounts.
  • Finally, I created several buffers to illustrate the distance the manure was being transported.

Primary Land Use

This map was produced to illustrate primary land use in Pepin County. Land use was determined using taxation codes from the 2011 tax database. Codes were determined using dominant acreage land use in a parcel. Microsoft Excel was then used to illustrate the breakdown by county and townships.

Future Land Use

This map illustrates future land use as determined by individual townships. Here I complied all the data in an attempt to create uniform land use map for the whole county. This map was only an initial map as further categories were going to be established to create a more uniform final map.

Road Map

For this map I was asked to create a new road map from the prior road map for the County. Here I created an annotation feature class using road name labels. The most imperative component of this map was to be sure every single road and stream/creek was labeled appropriately.

Chippewa River State Trail

This is a map of the segment of the Chippewa River State Trail that is located in Pepin County. This map was incorporated into a brochure that the county provides for trail users and tourists. For this map the road and water body feature classes were already created. It was my job to appropriately symbolize and label the map so users of it were able to identify landmarks and determine distances.

Agricultural Preservation Areas

The nine maps located below were created to illustrate agricultural preservation areas in Pepin County by individual township. I was asked to create these maps so new copies didn't have to be printed off and distributed before every meeting they were needed at. To create these maps I digitized in the sections by referring to a hard copy that was provided for me.
